2019 Tour de France Betting Preview

The Tour de France is one of the most prestigious races in sport, never mind cycling, providing a grueling test of endurance, strength, power and tactics across three weeks and over two thousand miles.
The Brits have done well in recent years, with Team Sky - now Ineos - dominating since 2012, providing winners in Sir Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome and, last year’s champion, Geraint Thomas.
This year is expected to be another fantastic race, and you’ll find all you need to know on this very page.

When Is The 2019 Tour de France?

The Tour de France 2019 gets underway on July 6 in Brussels where the first three stages will be to mark the 50th anniversary of the great Eddy Merckx’s first victory.
Following three stages in Belgium, the race will then move back to France where a further 18 stages will take place, finishing in Paris with the customary roll into the city and sprint down the Champs Elysees.

Tour de France 2019 Winner Odds

The Tour de France is going to be an interesting one this year with the original favourite for the event, Chris Froome, recently ruled out after a horrific crash which has left his career hanging in the balance.
His Team Ineos teammate Geraint Thomas has now moved into second favourite to win a second successive Yellow Jersey. He’ll certainly now be Ineos’ leader in the General Classification, but plenty of other teams will now have their tails up.
Who’s teammate Egan Bernal is the ante-post favourite however. The Colombian rider is just edging it according to 888sport, ahead of the likes of Jakob Fuglsang, Richie Porte and Adam Yates.

How Does The Tour de France Work?

The Tour de France is a relatively simple concept to understand. In order to win the race, a rider must complete the 21 stages in the shortest cumulated time.
At the end of each stage the time taken is added to a riders total time. The rider with the shortest totalled time at the end of each stage received the Yellow Jersey to wear for the next stage, with the rider wearing the Jersey after completion of the 21st stage being crowned the winner.
The same applies to the other jerseys. In terms of the White Jersey, for the best young rider, this works in exactly the same as the Yellow, but is only competed for by riders under the age of 26.
For the Green Jersey and Polka Dot Jersey, points are awarded throughout the race and at the end of each stage, the riders with the highest accumulated points taking the Sprint and King of the Mountains jerseys.

Tour de France Betting Tips

The safe bets will be going on Geraint Thomas to claim a second successive Tour. The Welshman has grown into a top GC rider in recent years and the lack of Chris Froome will allow him to forget about domestique duties and focus entirely on winning.
However, of course anything can happen on the roads and Jakob Fuglsang is also worth a backing, particularly for a top three finish at 7/4 and given that Tom Dumoulin has been ruled out.
The Yates brothers, Adam and Simon, will be heavily backed by British fans. Both have had success in the Tour, taking the Best Young Rider award, and they’ll be looking to step up, particularly Adam, an 11/1 shot.
The likes of QuintanaWinner can’t be ruled out. The Movistar rider will need good support but he’s used to success at the Tour having twice won the Young Rider a Classification and a Polka Dot Jersey in 2013, and two Grand Tours titles, one in both the Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a Espana.

TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 2 BETTING PREVIEW

2019 Tour De France Winner OddsSTeams will start in five-minute intervals in reverse order of the Team Classification following STAGE 2, with the yellow jersey wearer’s squad - the Jumbo–Visma - going last. Each team’s time will be taken when its fourth rider crosses the line. The first four riders are all awarded the same time, so there is no advantage in zooming away on your own and teamwork is vital. The last four to cross the line are given the times they clock individually.
The 27 kilometers follows a loop to the south-east of Brussels before turning north, crossing over the early kilometres of the route via fly over and then heading direct towards the Parc de Laeken for the finishing the shadowing of the stunning Atomium structure.
Team Ineos will look to establish themselves as the team to beat with defending champ Geraint Thomas and Egan Bernal leading a field of established rouleurs and time trialists such as Gianni Moscon.
Jumbo–Visma, whose Mike Teunissen surprisingly wears the yellow jersey, has several powerful time trialists, including Wout Van Aert and four-time world champion Tony Martin. They won the UAE Tour TTT earlier this season.
Mitchelton-Scott bested all the other teams at the Tirreno-Adriatico Team Time-Trial and can't be ruled out while

EF Education FirstOdds bring a pretty decent team to the table too and have improved dramatically individually in TTs this year.
Sunweb has a time-trial specialist such as Chad Haga, who won the individual time-trial which closed the Giro d’Italia in May while Deceuninck-QuickStep are arguably stronger than ever. They are World Champions in the discipline and have a good number of that squad, including Elia Viviani, Michael Morkov, Yves Lampaert, Kasper Asgreen and Julian Alaphilippe in their line-up.
Jakob Fuglsang (Astana) hopes to be fit following his crash on the opening stage, so we don't expect the Kazakh team to be a real contender.
Movistar, Groupama-FDJ, Bahrain-Merida and AG2R La Mondiale areteams filled with more climbers than time trialists. Hence, GC riders like Nairo Quintana (Movistar), Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ), Vincenzo Nibali (Bahrain-Merida) and Romain Bardet (AG2R) will be desperate to limit any damage on the clock.
Possible surprises?
Bora-Hansgrohe without Bodnar will hardly be in the mix while Team Katusha includes the likes of Dowsett, Goncalves, Haller, and Politt, so they are pushing real power.
