The 23-year-old poker pro from Waterford, MI might forever be known as 'Riess the Beast' after a tour de force performance in this year's November Nine. The first eight episodes of the 2013 World Series of Poker Main Event showed off poker’s elite class. Doyle Brunson and Phil Ivey inked the early headlines. Both players are out of the tournament by the time Day 5 rolls around those episodes are now available on PokerGO.
When play opens with 239 players remaining, the feature table is loaded with well-known figures. The primary notable is 2012 WSOP Main Event champion, Greg Merson.
Merson won the October Nine final table a year before and is in the hunt once again for the Main Event title. Defending Main Event winners don’t have a strong track record of putting forth a strong title defense but Merson does his best to reverse that trend.
Learn more about Merson and his recovery from drug addiction to Main Event champ in “Stories from the Felt.”
Speaking of former Main Event champions, 2001 title belt holder Carlos Mortensen lurks with a large stack on the outer tables. Mortensen’s intimidating table presence presents issues for his opponents as he tries to bully his way to his second Main Event final table.
There is a strong crew of players on the feature table next to Merson including pros Brett Richey and Vivek Rajkumar. Both players are now on to the next stage of their professional lives but make one final Main Event impression before closing the curtain on their poker career.
When the field condenses to be only a dozen tables, new faces arrive with WPT Champion Club member Jonathan Jaffe among them. The self-proclaimed dolphin trainer finds his match in the “lucky” Yi Fang.
Fang arrives at the feature table and jumps into fifth gear as soon as he unracks his chips. Jaffe and Fang play a massive pot with Jaffe holding pocket aces and unable to watch the potential carnage unfold around him.
One of the most memorable hands from the 2013 Main Event is on Day 5 and all four episodes are now streaming exclusively on PokerGO.
Don’t miss this crazy day of poker with an unforgettable character in Fang, who creates a legacy that exists to this day.

The World Series of Poker has announced its schedule for the 2013 series in Europe, which will be held near Paris, France. The WSOPE kicks off Friday, Oct. 11 with a brand new special event.
The series will commence with a €1,000+€100 buy-in “Ladies” no-limit hold’em tournament. The WSOPE has never held such a tournament before, despite one being a staple of the summer festival for many years now. The Ladies event will make eight bracelets to be awarded this year in the suburbs of Paris.
“We first offered a Ladies event at the Vegas WSOP in 1977, and felt it was the right time to add this tradition to WSOPE,” WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart said in a statement. “We need to do more to promote ladies involvement with the game, and with the many breakout stars in the region, it feels like a women’s European championship is long overdue.”
